FRUIT self-publishing exhibition is the instrument to investigate, promote and display the various forms taken by contemporary self-publishing which creates working opportunities for the producers and safeguards the cultural and artistic wealth currently running the risk of disappearing. After the introduction of digital technologies in the publishing field and consequently the dramatic downturn of traditional publishing, the survival of printed publications seems to be mainly dependable on limited edition creative productions, editions where the fisical touch remains an undisputable and irrinunciabile element.
Under this scenario, the self-publishing business which shows a growth of printed publications against the prevailing trend, represents a real possibility to contrast the gradual decline of printed publications.
The FRUIT exhibitors are art micro-publishers, self-publishers, printers, graphic designers, illustrators and artists who utilize the publishing space to develop their projects. They’re also small publishing houses dealing with contemporary graphics and publishers of projects which transfer the concept of self-publishing to audio-visual productions.
The editorial objects exhibited at FRUIT include artzines, artist publications, concept magazines, art micro-publishing, stationary, hand made prints, contemporary graphic and paper engineering projects.
The openminded approach that characterizes this project allows for a variety of materials deriving from different cultural worlds: illustrations, graphics, photography, visual arts and comics.
FRUIT is a project that expands all the year through promoting various activities such as the creation of temporary book shops in Italy and abroad within the framework of important exhibitions, focusing on specific artistic areas connected to self-publishing, didactic courses as well as the promotion and management of a public archive of self-published works (Fruit Library)
One of FRUIT’s objectives is in fact to educate the very young generation to a creative, productive approach, to sustain the young entrepreneurs in the publishing field as well as the creation of an international showcase and a meeting and exchange place where ideas, projects and collaborations can be developed.
