Always looking out for the newest trends and brightest publishing creations coming from outside the Italian borders, Fruit Exhibition is bringing to Bologna 4 exhibitions featuring a selection of the most interesting international artists that decided to express themselves and their arts with publishing.
Working on (and with) independent publishing means creating an inclusive space that presents a multi-layered and multifaceted universe including traditional publications (i.e. books, zines, catalogues, paper products) as well as the last digital avant-gardes.
Common ground of these many types of production is the freedom, both in content and design, that often leads to deep research and experimentation with new creative outlets.
Supported by the Royal Embassy of Norway in Rome, Fruit Exhibition 7 will be exhibiting some of the most beautiful artist books coming directly from the Scandinavian peninsula.
Norway is often a neglected country here in Italy, although when looking into its creative production it reveals a strong interest in independent publishing.
From a wide selection of national festival and fairs to a consistent production of artists books, Norwegian artists are in fact not only deeply involved in the revitalization of independent publishing, they are also reaching great accomplishments in it

Codex Polaris, an artist collective founded in 2013 by Sarah Jost, Rita Marhaug, Imi Maufe and Randi Annie Strand, is an example of the many and excellent Norwegian book-artists. The collective aims to create opportunities and exhibiting the creations of artists who work with books in the Nordic region.
The exhibition, taking place in the design Un Altro Studio, will feature a selection of high-end handmade books by the artists Sarah Jost, Elisabeth Alsos Strand, Randi Annie Strand, Elizabeth, Rydland Nilssen, Kurt Johannessen, Rita Marhaug, Imi Maufe, Johan Solberg, Tina Jonsbu, Ane Thon Knutsen and Vibeke Luther O’Rourke.

Together with the artist books’ exhibition curated by Codex Polaris, Fruit Exhibition 7 will also host an exhibition of drawings by Norwegian artist and illustrator Kay Arne Kirkebø.
The artist, based in Bergen (Norway), will be presenting original works from his latest book All is Lost, on display together new, unpublished works.
The illustrations on show, depicting dark and often humorous scenes from everyday life, are all black and white pencil drawings.
Kirkebø’s production is in fact primarily composed by drawings, an artistic journey that explores illustration in all its differents forms and possibilities, from wall-drawings to animations and artist books.
Moving south, but not that much, we end up in London with photographer Judith Erwes, whose exhibition Some Sheep, from the homonym pocket-size book, will be on show in Palazzo Isolani alongside her publications in the publishers-market of Fruit 7.

Some Sheep is a fun little coffee table (or bathroom/kitchen table) book and fine art print series including a collection of portraits of sheep which are showing off different hair’n’fur styles in Pop Art style colours.
On show a series of portraits representing fun and fashionable sheeps, styled and posing as models, realised by the artist in her very unique and entertaining style, originating from a strong retro esthetic and, at the same time, with clear connections with fashion photography.
Fruit Exhibition 7’s journey ends in Italy, with an exhibition featuring the works created during the first artist-in-residence project promoted by Crudo. First guest is Italian artist Cosimo Veneziano.

The exhibition is a site-specific installation created by the artist for the Indoor Square of Bologna’s main public library, the Salaborsa.
The project is inspired by the concept of flashbulb memories, photographic memories defined by the interaction between our cognitive and emotional spheres.
These memories are, by definition, very bright and persistent and usually relates to particularly striking public events.
The artist collected the memories of 40 regular library-goers and, starting from real images printed on old newspapers, turned them into a series of silk-screen prints installed to create a proper “timeline” inside the library.
